Plant Health Care Technician
A Plant Health Care Technician is responsible for administering specialized treatments on trees and various types of vegetation. Their role aids in insect and disease control, helping maintain plant health in local areas. Plant Health Care Technicians work in accordance with applicable industry standards and in compliance with all state regulations and policies as it pertains to pesticide applications for ornamental plants and trees. They handle chemicals often and apply federalizes and pesticides meaning they must work closely with arboriculture teams to maintain local biodiversity and vegetative health.
A Day in the Job
A day in the life of a Plant Health Care Technician begins entails a mix of field diagnostics and hands-on treatments. Usually the day will begin with prep and loading trucks while briefing with close colleagues. During the day they will conduct many inspections and diagnosis out in the field. From this they conclude treatment options and applications, usually these are things like fungicides, insecticides, or dormant oils. A major part of this job also involves documentations of clients, treatments and observations. Other complex treatments performed include tasks such as soil injections, root zone treatments, or light pruning/ molting to improve plant health. End of day work includes cleaning and equipment maintenance while reviewing and preparing for future work.
